Disney has confirmed today the rumored direct points increase for Disney Vacation Club Membership Extras in updating the terms and conditions regarding these benefits on their website.

As originally rumored to occur today, Disney Vacation Club has increased the minimum direct ownership requirement to qualify for Membership Extras to 125 points, effective Monday, October 19th, 2020.

The new language found on the Disney Vacation Club website states:

Effective October 19, 2020, to obtain a Disney Vacation Club Membership Card, Members must accumulate a total of at least 125 Vacation Points purchased directly from Disney Vacation Development, Inc.

This direct minimum increase appears to be turning into a yearly occurrence, as we last saw the minimum raised from 75 points to 100 points in September 2019. DVC also raised the direct minimum for Membership Extras and perks in February 2018. Before that, members were only required to have 25 direct points to qualify for benefits, showing a drastic increase in this requirement in just a few short years.

Perks associated with being a direct blue cardholder with Disney Vacation Club have historically included Membership Extras such as discounts on dining, annual passholder tickets, special events, parties, and more. However, it is important to note that DVC can change these Membership Extras and ‘perks’ for direct owners at any time.

All current blue cardholders are expected to be grandfathered into this increase, similar to we have seen in years past.

  • Seems like Disney is just out of touch with the real world now.

  • I find it interesting that on one hand, Disney appears to be incentivizing buying direct (i.e. Riveria Resort) and on the other, driving people to the non-direct purchase. Does this indicate they will continue to offer benefits to the “blue card” crowd? Hard and too early to say.

  • I sold my membership about 8 months ago and I’m happy I did. This new guy at the top will destroy quickly what bob ingor put together and made it a real world expierence. It’s all about Disney now and to hell with the expierence or a family atmosphere.

  • This s a difficult time for all. I’m sure everything will work out at Disney. I have confidence in the happiest place in the world. Stay safe.
