Destination D23 Recap: What Excitement Can We Expect from Disney Parks and Resorts?

Today is a special day for Disney fans all over. The Destination D23 event offers us a glimpse of what we can expect in the future. This event was held at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and was streamed live on YouTube for everyone to see. What exciting things did we learn from this year’s D23 event? Let’s check it out!

Disney Parks

Ahsoka, the Star Wars character, will be a new addition to Star Tours at Disney World, Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris.

From the upcoming new movie, Wish, the main character Asha will be coming to EPCOT, Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris for meet and greets.

The Hatbox Ghost that we knew was making his way to Walt Disney World’s Haunted Manson was announced to be added officially in late November.

Country Bear Jamboree at Disney World is getting a whole new act. This show is going to be much different from the classic and feature Disney songs in Country Bear style- bluegrass, country, etc.

Also at Disney World, a new tavern is coming near the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction designed to match the theming. They didn’t have a lot of information on it, but it’s something to look forward to.

The ride vehicles were revealed for the King Thanos ride in Disneyland’s Avengers Campus.

Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana at EPCOT, will officially open on October 16th. Moana will also join in as a character meet and greet.

The World Celebration Neighborhood will open to guests in December at EPCOT.

The new EPCOT Nightime show will debut on December 5th. It will be called ‘Luminous The Symphony of Us’.

Disney is working with Chevrolet to reimagine Test Track at EPCOT.

The “Blue Sky” ideas for Magic Kingdom expansion were hinted at again, but no real solid information on that yet. They related it to the Galaxy Edge or Pandora additions to other parks that will add new attractions, shows, restaurants, and more in the future.

For Animal Kingdom, a new Zootopia show will take make its home in the Tree of Life, seemingly the place of Tough to Be a Bug.

They hinted at something Encanto and Indiana Jones being considered for potential new themed lands at Animal Kingdom. It’s important to note these are only considerations and concepts at this time and not solid plans.

Figment will begin doing character meet and greets inside the Imagination Pavilion starting tomorrow.

Disney Cruise Line

More details about the Disney Treasure were revealed ahead of the event.

We learned that three new ships are in development, as well as Lighthouse Point, which will be officially named ‘Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point’.

We saw a brief concept art of the new large ship that will be the first to sail from Singapore. The name of the new large Disney ship will be the Disney Adventure.

International Parks

A sneak peek of Hong Kong Disney’s World of Frozen was shown. This land is opening in November.

We also got a preview of the Zootopia land coming to Shanghai Disney Resort.

There was highlight of the Frozen-themed land coming to Disneyland Paris in Walt Disney Studios Park.

We got to see some of Fantasy Springs coming to Tokyo Disney Resort.

While we didn’t receive any real major news and nothing for Disney Vacation Club, we are excited about some of the updates coming to Disney Parks and Disney Cruise Line.
