I have long been a fan of Disney history and the story behind the mouse. With Disney Vacation Club in mind, I decided it would be fun to take a peek and explore our beloved ‘homes’ and see what story each resort has to tell.

Our journey starts by taking a look at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. I began to research this resort and quickly realized that one of the most extensive historical studies I’ve ever seen was done by DIS Contributor Chuck Mirarchi several years ago. Rather than reinvent this I thought I’d share these articles with you since I know my own research would never uncover half of what Chuck did.

Let me know in the comments below if you enjoy learning about the history of these resorts as much as I do! If so we might continue exploring each of the DVC Resorts and learn a little more about what makes them so special.

Amy and I are new Orlando, Florida residents where we live with our dogs Odie the greyhound and Hermès the Spanish galgo. We are DVC owners at Animal Kingdom Lodge, BoardWalk Villas, Grand Californian, Grand Floridian, and Polynesian, Disney World Annual Passholders, and love educating Disney Vacation Club members on how to both use and maximize the value of their DVC points!

  • Thanks so much for sharing this! Looking forward to more. You might also consider some history around how the resorts were originally managed, which was not by Disney. As with everything Disney realized they could do it better.
