Disney Vacation Club Removes Member Point Borrowing Restriction

Riviera Resort Sunset

“When will Disney Vacation Club allow us to borrow 100% of our points again?” It’s the question we’ve received hundreds of times over the past two years.

Well, I am happy to report that today is that day! A newly added alert on the Disney Vacation Club website now states:

“Effective July 12, Members will be able to borrow their full allotment of Vacation Points from their next Use Year to this Use Year.”

Disney Vacation Club

Borrowing Disney Vacation Club points has always been a hallmark of the DVC program. Restrictions, however, have prevented many members from fully utilizing their membership throughout the pandemic. For those unfamiliar with this rule, due to anticipated availability issues, DVC limited point borrowing for all members back in April 2020. This change only allowed members to only borrow up to 50% of their future use year points.

Now DVC Members can return to borrowing up to 100% of the points available in their next Use Year. This provides a wide range of increased flexibility for members looking to plan their next vacation. This is a huge win for members but may be a huge loss for DVC availability. If you have been on the fence about a future vacation, you might want to consider booking it today. Members significantly impacted by the 50% borrowing restriction will now be looking to use their points which will further tighten already limited availability.

I don’t usually pat myself on the back, but called this one pretty accurately when I predicted the removal of borrowing restrictions back in June 2021. Now that we are within a booking period that is outside of Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, things are finally feeling more and more like normal.

    Thanks Paul/Amy

Good news. However I thought you could only borrow 100% of the points you had remaining. For example if I only had 100 left out of say 200 for 2022 I can only borrow 100 and not the full 200 from 2023. Or have I got this wrong ?

Hi Ian! – You can borrow 100% of your total allotment from the next Use Year. It does not have any relation to what you have available in your current Use Year.
