In an article published by Forbes.com, we now have an idea of how many villas the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows will be adding to the existing association. Let’s dive into everything we learned!
Quantity of Rooms
Currently, the Polynesian Village Resort boasts 484 rooms at the hotel side of the resort. The condo association (Polynesian Villas & Bungalows) adds 360 DVC studios and 20 two-bedroom bungalows to the resort. According to Forbes, the Island tower will add an additional 268 DVC rooms to the resort.
Association
Forbes made it clear that, like us, they are certain the tower will be one with the current Polynesian DVC, stating in no uncertain terms that, “The new addition to Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows will be part of existing DVC contracts for those who have membership at the resort.” Furthermore, they go on to explain that owners of the original Polynesian DVC will be able to use their points at the tower as their home resort.
Room Capacity
In addition to the number of rooms, we are provided with some capacity information. Based on the article, the tower will have rooms that can sleep from two to nine people. We are assuming the Duo Studios will sleep two, and two bedrooms will be the accommodation for sleeping up to nine, with Studios and One-Bedroom Villas holding capacities between them. Typically Studios and One-Bedroom DVC units hold 4-5 guests depending on the resort.

New Resort Entrance
We’ve recently learned that Disney is also creating a new entrance to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort as part of the ongoing updates leading up to the opening of the Island Tower. These road changes include reworking the current entrance to be a bus-only access, and a new main resort entrance to service the entire resort, including the new DVC Tower. This update will help facilitate the influx of additional guests to the resort. Blog Mickey did a great job fully outlining the recent permit filings and the changes that will be made to the resort’s entrance area. According to their overview, the modifications are designed to enhance traffic flow and improve accessibility, ensuring a seamless experience for all visitors, whether they are staying at the hotel, existing DVC units, or the forthcoming Island Tower.

Green Initiative
Something exciting about the tower for us nature lovers is that the building will help Disney work towards its environmental goals. The tower will assist the goals with optimized heating and cooling systems, energy-efficient lighting, and containing the first all-electric kitchen restaurant at Disney World. Combined, these efforts will use approximately 30% less energy than a similar-sized resort.

May 21, 2024Thank you for the updates and keep them coming. We are beyond excited as we own the bulk of our points at The Polynesian buying direct in 2016 ($160 a point) and then adding 2 resale contracts. We plan is to book 2 studios in June for a May 2025 trip and then try to move that reservation to the new tower when it comes online for owners. Have a Wonderful Day!
