General DVC Membership Extra News and Updates

DVC Expands Point Exchange Opportunities for Disneyland Paris – But Is It Worth It?

Disney Vacation Club (DVC) has announced an expansion of its point exchange program at Disneyland Paris, allowing eligible Members to now book stays at three additional resort hotels using their Membership.

Members can now exchange points to stay at:

  • Disney Hotel Cheyenne – Inspired by Toy Story, this Wild West-themed hotel lets you live out your cowboy dreams in a setting straight out of the frontier.
  • Disney Hotel Santa Fe – This Cars-themed resort brings the Route 66 spirit to life with vibrant desert scenery and Pixar charm.
  • Disney Davy Crockett Ranch – A rustic, pioneer-style retreat set in nature, offering spacious cabins perfect for families seeking adventure.

What Does It Mean to Exchange Your Points?

Point exchanges for non-DVC properties like Disneyland Paris aren’t new, but the expansion of options provides more variety for those interested in using their points internationally. However, there are a few important caveats Members need to be aware of when considering an exchange.

When you exchange your DVC Vacation Points, they are converted into Reservation Points. This means:

  • You must pay a $95 non-refundable fee to make the exchange.
  • If you cancel, your points remain Reservation Points—meaning you cannot use them for a DVC resort.
  • Reservation Points can only be redeemed for exchange options such as Disney Cruises, Adventures by Disney, or Disneyland Paris hotels—limiting flexibility.

Is There Value in This Exchange? Let’s Do the Math

To determine if this is a good value for Members, let’s compare the cost of a stay at Disneyland Paris using points versus renting out those same points for cash.

Example: Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel

  • Dates: August 1st – 5th, 2025 (4 nights)
  • Room Type: Superior Room with Garden View
  • Package Includes: 5-Day, 2-Park Tickets for 2 Adults
  • Total Cost via Disneyland Paris Website: $3,129.56
  • Total Cost in DVC Points: 98 points per night x 4 nights = 392 points

Now, let’s compare what those 392 points could be worth if you rented them out through DVC Rental Store at the current lowest rate of $15 per point:

  • 392 points x $15 per point = $5,880
  • Total Savings by Renting Out Points Instead of Exchanging: $2,750.44
  • Equivalent Cost in Points for $3,129.56 (Using $15 Per Point Rental Rate): 209 points
  • Difference in Points Used by Exchanging vs. Renting: 183 extra points lost to DVC

And keep in mind, this price included park tickets, which aren’t included in the DVC exchange. Add in the $95 exchange fee, and the financial gap becomes even wider. You could essentially book your flight with these savings and have extra spending money for your trip.

The Verdict: A No-Brainer

It’s clear that while the idea of using DVC points at Disneyland Paris may seem exciting, the financial reality is far from favorable. Members would be giving up a significant amount of value by exchanging points rather than renting them out for cash and booking their Disneyland Paris stay separately.

DVC’s expansion of these point exchanges may give Members more options, but it does so at a steep cost. The amount of points required for a Disneyland Paris stay is shockingly high, and with no park tickets included, Members are losing out on both value and flexibility.

For anyone considering using points for a Disneyland Paris vacation, renting your points and paying cash for your stay is the clear winner.

Very happy to see someone doing the actual math – these exchanges devalue your points by almost 50%! We did the math for our ABD Japan trip and for our five night stay at TDR this past October and it was insane how much value we would have given up using points. Hard to believe these exchanges are actually peddled as “perks” to prospective owners.
