DVC Moonlight Magic FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Moonlight Magic

With the 2026 Disney Vacation Club Moonlight Magic dates now released, and more Moonlight Magic registrations and events coming up, we thought we’d try to answer some of the most common questions about Moonlight Magic that we see on our DVC Fan Facebook Group!

General Questions

What is Moonlight Magic?

Moonlight Magic is a special event exclusive to Disney Vacation Club (DVC) Members. During these events, eligible members can visit a select Disney park after it has closed to the public, turning the park into their very own playground. The event offers shorter-than-usual wait times for popular attractions, unique character greetings, exceptional entertainment, and complimentary treats.

Who is eligible to register for Moonlight Magic?

There are 2 registration windows for Moonlight Magic events, the Early Registration window and the General Registration window. The Early Registration window always occurs first and generally has the most availability for Moonlight Magic. The General Registration window occurs later and usually closer to the event and usually has very limited availability.

For both registration windows, you must qualify for Membership Magic (aka “Blue Card” or “DVC-Y”). Qualifying for Membership Extras means that you have bought the required number of DVC points directly from Disney to qualify (currently 150 points) or were previously grandfathered in.

In addition, during Early Registration, you must have a qualifying stay using your DVC Membership at a Disney-owned and operated resort.

A qualifying stay means you are either staying at a Disney resort using your DVC points or are paying cash through DVC Member Services to stay at a DVC resort. A cash stay booked through Disney (not DVC) will no longer qualify.

Registering for Moonlight Magic

What should I expect registering for Moonlight Magic?

Registration normally begins at 11am Eastern. For Early Registration, if you have a qualifying resort stay, you will receive an email the day before registration. If, for some reason, you do not receive the email, the link is normally shared out by one of our moderators on the DVC Fan Facebook group.

For General Registration, emails are not sent out, but the link will be shared in our DVC Fan Facebook Group the morning of event, usually 1-2 hours before registration begins.

It is recommended to open the link before registration begins at 11am. It does not matter when you open the link, just so long as it is before 11am. At 11am, all people in the waiting room will be assigned a random place in the virtual queue. Anyone who joins after 11am will be placed at the back of the line.

When you first click the link, it will ask for your DVC Membership Number. For Early Registration, this is actually a good test to see which Membership Number will work, as it not only verifies your DVC Membership Number, but it also verifies if you have a qualifying stay. If you have a qualifying stay and your DVC Membership Number isn’t working, a call to DVC Member Services may be in order, and it is better to do that before registration begins than during the registration window.

After entering your DVC Membership Number, you’ll be taken to the waiting room. The waiting room will count down when registration starts, and then you will join the virtual queue. You don’t need to do anything other than leave this page open, it will automatically join the queue once the timer finishes counting down.

Because so many people try to register for Moonlight Magic at the same time, Disney uses a virtual queue to limit the number of people who can register. Everyone else is put into a virtual queue.

Once in the virtual queue, the screen will display how much time you have left before it is your turn. The timer is very inaccurate, and just because it says “More than an hour” left, it could be much less. We have personally had it jump from “More than an hour” to just 15 minutes left after having waited just 10 minutes.

Once it is your turn, you will need to have your DVC Membership Number (if you have multiple membership numbers, the number associated with your reservation during Moonlight Magic is usually the one to use for Early Registration, for General Registration, use any membership number that qualifies for Membership Magic).

You then will need to select the DVC Member who will be attending Moonlight Magic if you have multiple names on the contract, and enter the number of people attending Moonlight Magic. This number cannot be greater than 5 unless it is Early Registration and you have a room reservation with more than 5 guests on the reservation.

Lastly, there is a list of rules with check boxes, and you must check all of the boxes next to the rules to agree to them before you’re able to submit and register.

Also, make sure you’re on the final confirmation screen before exiting.

When do Moonlight Magic registration emails and links come out?

For Early Registration, generally emails will be sent the day before registration and will include a link to the registration page.

For General Registration, emails are not sent out, but the link will be shared in our DVC Fan Facebook Group the morning of the event, usually 1-2 hours before registration begins.

Am I able to book a cash stay at any Disney hotel to qualify for Moonlight Magic?

Starting in 2024, DVC quietly changed the rules for Moonlight Magic early registration, and it has now been confirmed that you must be staying using your points or a cash stay booked through DVC Member Services.

How often can I attend Moonlight Magic?

New beginning in 2025, DVC introduced Moonlight Magic seasons. There are 4 seasons, winter, spring, fall, and summer, although they don’t quite line up with the actual seasons. You are able to register for 1 Moonlight Magic event per season, and registration for each season occurs all at once, which almost guarantees you can only register for 1 event since you’ll need to choose which event you will attend during registration.

Find out more details on which Moonlight Magic events occur during each season here!

Note that in previous years, DVC limited your attendance to 1 Moonlight Magic event per park per calendar year, for example, if you went to Moonlight Magic at Epcot once in 2024, you could not attend the second Epcot Moonlight Magic. This limitation no longer appears on the Moonlight Magic webpage, so you should be able to register for the same park twice, so long as the events occur in different seasons.

Is it helpful to try to register using multiple devices?

In the past, it was useful to use multiple devices when registering for Moonlight Magic. However, in 2025, DVC added a Membership Number check before entering the waiting room. Additionally, on the waiting room page, DVC added wording that says they may limit the number of devices that can be used per membership number. Therefore, I recommend not using more than 1 or 2 devices when trying to register.

What does it mean when the queue says it is “paused”?

During registration, the line may be paused multiple times as DVC tries to determine if an event has reached capacity or not. This is normal and does not automatically mean that the event has sold out, and in cases where people are registered for multiple events at the same time, it does not mean that your event is sold out. Just keep an eye on the queue, and it will continue at some point.

DVC will also add messages on the virtual queue page, often after pausing, to tell you if any events are at capacity.

If I have a stay booked using my own resale points, but qualify for Membership Magic, do I qualify to register during the early registration window?

Yes, generally speaking, you should qualify. However, if you have multiple membership numbers as a result of owning multiple use-years, you should use the membership number associated with your reservation for the system to recognize that you qualify. It’s also possible that you may need to use the membership number where you qualify for Membership Extras for the system to recognize that you qualify, but it seems less likely that this will happen.

Despite rumors that this was changed for 2025, this still seems to be the case, and I was able to register early for a Moonlight Magic event using a reservation booked on resale points.

If I am booking using someone else’s points (such as rented points or another family member’s points) do I qualify to register during the early registration window?

No, you can only register during the early registration window if your room is booked using your own DVC membership.

How many people am I allowed to register for Moonlight Magic?

By default, you can register a total of 5 people attending Moonlight Magic. However for Early Registration, if you have more than 5 people listed on your room reservation before the cutoff date (usually 3 days before registration begins) you can register for the number of people on your reservation. For example, if you were staying at a grand villa and had a party of 12, you could register all 12 people staying in the grand villa.

Do I need to know the names of each person attending Moonlight Magic?

No, you will only need to pick the name of the DVC Member who will be attending the event, as it is required for check-in. For example, if you and your spouse are both named on your DVC contracts but only you will be attending Moonlight Magic, you must pick your name when registering. If you pick your spouse’s name, your spouse would need to be present at check-in.

Do my check-in / check-out days qualify for Moonlight Magic?

Yes, if you are checking in or checking out on the date that Moonlight Magic falls, your reservation still qualifies for early registration!

What are some tips for Moonlight Magic registration?

Attending Moonlight Magic

Do I need to be present when checking in for Moonlight Magic?

If you registered as the DVC member attending, you must be present along with everyone in your party at the same time. This means if you have an annual pass and some people in your party do not, you cannot go to the in-park check-in for Moonlight Magic and have others go to the outside one. Your entire party should check in together. Exceptions are sometimes granted, but do not count on this to be the norm.

Can I leave Moonlight Magic and come back in?

Yes, so long as you keep your wristband on, you may need the registered DVC member to accompany you if you leave and want to come back inside, though.

Do my guests and I need a ticket to the park for Moonlight Magic?

You do not need a normal day ticket to attend Moonlight Magic. Your registration for Moonlight Magic counts as your entry to the park.

When can I enter the park for Moonlight Magic?

The actual time you will be able to enter the park for Moonlight Magic will vary depending on what time the park closes that day, but generally speaking, you will be able to enter the park at least 2 hours before the park officially closes.

When does Moonlight Magic start, and how long is Moonlight Magic?

Moonlight Magic typically begins 30-60 minutes after the park officially closes and lasts for 3 hours.

If I am already in the park for the day, is there somewhere I can check in for Moonlight Magic other than the entrance to the park?

Yes, before the park closes, there is generally somewhere you can go inside the park to check in and get your wristbands for Moonlight Magic. However, the location varies from event to event, so it is best to ask at the DVC Information booth or ask a Cast Member.

What do I need to check in for Moonlight Magic?

The DVC Member who registered for Moonlight Magic must be present and needs to provide both proof of DVC Membership and a photo ID. Generally speaking, a Magicband or park ticket (including MagicMobile) will work to prove DVC membership, but also be prepared to show your Magic Mobile “DVC-Y” if asked.

For Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA, Moonlight Magic hard tickets are mailed out to attendees ahead of time or can be picked up day-of and must be presented at check-in.

What will I receive after checking in for Moonlight Magic

Attendees will receive a wristband similar to what you would receive at a hard ticket event, such as Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas party or Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party.

Additionally, paper maps are available that detail where all of the Moonlight Magic activities are in the theme park.

Last and most importantly, attendees normally receive coupons for free snacks.

When and where can I use my snack coupons?

While the Moonlight Magic event officially starts after the park closes, Moonlight Magic attendees can generally get into the park at least 2 hours before the park officially closes. Once you’ve checked in, you’ll receive your wristband and snack coupons and can immediately use those coupons. Many food service locations will close along with the park’s official closing time, so it can be beneficial to use your snack coupons before the park closes.

A list of specifically what food locations and what food items are available to use with the snack coupons is usually available on the map or via a QR code, which is posted around the park; usually, there is one near the entrance.

What kind of special activities are available at Moonlight Magic?

Each Moonlight Magic event will vary, and so it’s important to check the map to see what to expect.

Here are some activities from past Moonlight Magic events that may be at the Moonlight Magic event you attend:

– Shorter waits for theme park attractions
– Free Mickey Bars and other desserts at designated locations
– Rare character Meet and Greets
– DJ Dance Party
– Exclusive DVC Member fireworks or evening entertainment
