If you are anything like me, you probably have drawers upon drawers of miniature toiletry bottles from Walt Disney World tucked away in your bathroom or closet. These little bottles have become part of the classic Disney Vacation Club Resort experience. But a significant change is now underway that is phasing them out. Cherish them while you still have them.
Recently, on property, at Disney’s Old Key West Resort and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas Kidani Village, the traditional single-use plastic toiletry bottles for shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were gone, replaced with refillable pump containers in guest bathrooms. This change reflects Walt Disney World’s shift toward more sustainable practices in guest rooms.
Let’s look at what changes are happening in DVC resorts, why Disney is making the shift, and how this ties into Disney’s broader environmental goals heading into 2030!
What Is Changing With Toiletries at Disney Vacation Club Resorts
For years, Disney Resort bathrooms have offered single-use toiletry bottles in many villa bathroom sinks and near larger soaking tubs in Grand Villas. While many showers already used refillable pump containers for body wash, shampoo, and conditioner, these larger villas and sinks continued to include individual toiletries for guests.
That is now changing. On recent visits, we noticed that:
- Single-use plastic toiletry bottles are being removed from rooms.
- Refillable pump containers are replacing the old bottles for amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.
- This shift is noticeable at bathroom sinks and around soaking tubs in larger villa accommodations.

Based on what we are seeing and what DVC Fan community members are reporting, this is a system-wide change that appears to be rolling out gradually as the existing stock of single-use containers is used up.
New Eco-Friendly Laundry Detergent Sheets in Washing Machines
Another change we are tracking involves laundry detergent in washing machines at Disney Vacation Club Resorts. After our recent stay at Disney’s Old Key West Resort, we received a survey asking about eco laundry detergent sheets. This was confusing because we did not see those during our stay.

However, thanks to photos shared by DVC Fan community members Greg and Josephine, it appears that Disney is introducing hypoallergenic plant-powered laundry detergent sheets in place of traditional liquid laundry detergent in laundry facilities. These sheets are likely part of the same sustainability initiative and will be implemented as current liquid detergent supplies are depleted.
Why Disney Is Making These Sustainability Changes
These changes are not random. They tie directly into Disney’s 2030 Environmental Goals Project, a long-term plan aimed at eliminating waste to landfills across all wholly owned parks, resorts, and cruise lines by 2030.
In Disneys publicly shared 2030 environmental goals, the company states:
Beginning in 2018 we set out a series of commitments to eliminate single use plastic straws, plastic stirrers, and polystyrene cups at all owned and operated locations across the globe to transition to refillable in room amenities in our hotels and on our cruise ships and to reduce the number of plastic shopping bags in our owned and operated parks and on our cruise line. As a result we have permanently eliminated more than 200 million plastic straws and stirrers annually completed removal of all polystyrene cups and reduced plastics by more than 30 percent in our guest rooms and state rooms by replacing a large portion of disposable toiletries with bulk amenities and reducing our use of plastic merchandise bags. Moving forward our theme parks and resorts will focus on four key plastic reduction strategies: reducing plastics in our hotels reducing single use plastics in food and beverage service implementing and expanding reuse systems engaging suppliers to reduce single use plastics throughout the supply chain.
These goals explain why Disney is removing single-use toiletries, updating laundry detergent options, and exploring new ways to reduce plastic waste in resort operations.
What This Means for Disney Vacation Club Members
For many Disney Vacation Club Members, the classic collectible bottles of shampoo and conditioner have become a cherished souvenir of Resort stays. As Disney continues to implement these eco initiatives, these bottles might soon be a thing of the past.
Here is what Members can expect:
- Fewer single-use toiletries in villa bathrooms over time.
- Refillable amenity containers replacing bottles in most resort bathrooms.
- Laundry rooms moving toward plant-based detergent sheets instead of liquid detergent.
- Eco-friendly practices continuing to evolve as part of Disney’s 2030 Goals.
If you love collecting the classic toiletry bottles, now may be the time to enjoy them while they remain available. And if you prefer refillable containers and eco-friendly detergent sheets, Disney is clearly listening to sustainability trends and guest feedback as it moves toward reduced waste solutions.
We want to hear what you think about these changes. How do you feel about refillable pump containers instead of single-use bottles? What are your thoughts on the new laundry detergent sheets? Leave your comments below or join the discussion in the DVC Fan Facebook Group.
