The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness: Pet Rules

One of the earliest details released about The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is that some of the cabins would be pet-friendly, a first for a DVC property.  Thanks to the recent filings with the Orange County Comptroller, we have some more details on the policies related to having a pet at the resort.  Here’s what we know:

The Only Pets Permitted Are Dogs

As per the Pet Rules in Exhibit A of Document 20230743964, the only pets permitted at the resort are dogs.  Guests are also limited to having no more than 2 dogs at each cabin.

Dogs should be up-to-date on vaccinations since current vaccination records must be provided upon request of management. No weight limit has been specified within the rules.

Fido Has to Be on His Best Behavior at the Cabin

According to the rules, dogs must be fully trained and are not allowed on the furniture on resort property.  When outside of the cabin, dogs have to be on a leash, in a pet carrier, or in a bounded area.  They also can’t disrupt other guests or be left unattended for more than 7 hours.

Dog Owners Have to Follow a Few Special Procedures

When guests with dogs check into the resort, they will receive a welcome kit with a door hanger that has to be displayed outside the cabin.  This will notify cast members and management that dogs are occupying the cabin.  Since housekeeping service is only available when dogs are not in the cabin, guests with dogs have to call to schedule a cleaning time.

There are also fees associated with bringing a dog on resort property.  DVC members who are owners of the Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort will be charged $30 per night, whereas “lessees, guests, invitees, licensees, and exchangers” will be charged $50 per night.

Where Are Dogs Permitted on Property?

Dogs are really only permitted within the cabin itself.  They are not allowed in the theme parks, water parks, Disney Springs, or ESPN Wide World of Sports.  They are also not allowed in the common areas of Fort Wilderness such as the food and beverage locations, lounges, pool areas, fitness centers, or other recreational areas and facilities.  One exception is resort transportation, such as the internal buses for Fort Wilderness.  Guests with dogs can use select transportation services at the resort, though dogs must be in pet carriers while in transit.

What Happens If Pet Rules Are Violated?

A violation of the Pet Rules can result in the removal of the dog or dog owner from the resort property.  It can even result in the prohibition or cancellation of a resort reservation.

Disclaimers

It’s important to note that the Pet Rules do not apply to service animals, and they are subject to change.  In fact, the filing states in bold text that owners shouldn’t purchase ownership interest “in reliance on the continued ability to bring dogs onto Resort Property.”
