Disneyland Resort has announced two major updates coming to Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa this year, promising to enhance both the accommodations and dining experiences at this beloved property. Here’s what you can look forward to:
Guest Room Refurbishments
As anticipated, a full refurbishment of the Grand Californian’s guest rooms, including the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) Villas, is set to begin soon. Disneyland has shared a sneak peek at what to expect, and the changes sound fantastic.
The refreshed rooms will continue to embrace the hotel’s signature Arts & Crafts motif, but with a modern twist. Expect bold, vibrant colors in the carpets, upholstery, and bedding. These design elements draw inspiration from the California wildflower blooms often depicted in Impressionistic plein air paintings, a style that beautifully complements the Arts and Crafts period’s aesthetic. Additionally, new artwork commissioned from local plein air painters will adorn the rooms, adding a unique and personal touch to each space.
As we’ve previously reported, sample rooms featuring Murphy beds were spotted during initial testing phases, so it’s likely that these space-saving beds will be part of the refurbishment plans. Recent photos shared to us by a DVC member also show refurbishment materials staged on-site, signaling that work is about to get underway.

Napa Rose Enhancements
The award-winning Napa Rose restaurant, located within the Grand Californian, will close this spring for a major refurbishment and is expected to reopen in fall 2025. When it returns, guests can anticipate a dining experience that blends rustic elegance with modern Californian luxury.
The revamped interior will celebrate Craftsman design with thoughtful details like reclaimed French oak flooring and artisan-crafted metals, complemented by rich leathers and deep cabernet hues. A striking chandelier inspired by California’s Mission grapevines will serve as a centerpiece, tying the theme together beautifully.

Beyond the interior, the patio will also receive enhancements, including additional seating and the addition of two fireplaces to create a cozy al fresco dining ambiance. The dynamic exhibition kitchen will remain, and the expanded counter seating will allow more guests to watch the culinary team in action.
The updated Napa Rose will debut a refreshed menu alongside its impeccable wine collection of over 1,500 labels. While the menu will feature exciting new offerings, fan favorites like the Smiling Tiger Salad will remain. Temporary dining options will be available at the Grand Californian during Napa Rose’s closure; guests are encouraged to check Disneyland’s website for details.
The planned updates to Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa reflect Disney’s continued commitment to enhancing guest experiences while preserving the unique charm of this iconic property. From the refreshed guest rooms to the luxurious upgrades at Napa Rose, these changes are sure to delight both longtime fans and first-time visitors.
