Breakfast at Trader Sam’s: Disneyland Hotel’s Tropical Addition

The Disneyland Resort is full of delicious breakfast options, and a tropical addition has recently joined the list. Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar currently serves breakfast from 8am to 11am daily, and the menu is full of delicious island inspired eats for the entire family.

Location

Located next to the pool at the Disneyland Hotel, the original Trader Sam’s is smack in the middle of the action of the resort. You can find the entrance around the corner from Tangaroa Terrace.

Ambiance

Trader Sam’s typically offers both inside and outdoor seating. The small indoor area offers a highly immersive and themed environment, complete with the occasional volcanic eruption. The outdoor seating offers a relaxed and pleasant vibe with tropical colors and an island inspired soundtrack. Currently, they are only seating indoors for breakfast. We opted to sit at the bar for a more immersive experience. Although the vibes were a bit more subdued given the earlier morning crowd, the bartenders still engaged in their typical antics.

Dishes

The menu offers both traditional breakfast options along with tropical fare. While it is the same menu as that of Tangaroa Terrace, the quick service location next door, the Trader Sam’s menu also offers a bar menu and their signature tiki cocktails.

We shared the following items:

Tropical Pancakes: These macadamia nut pancakes were served with passion fruit curd and toasted coconut. The pancakes were fluffy, golden brown, and generously portioned. With the addition of the macadamia nuts and passion fruit curd, they felt like a trip to the islands. Highly recommended!

Island Garden Avocado Toast: A simple avocado toast served with watermelon radish, cherry tomatoes, and a side of berries and pineapple. This dish underwhelmed, with the combination of ingredients ultimately being rather flavorless and the bread soggy. We would not re-order this again.

Sparkling Mimosa: A traditional classic of bubbles and orange juice, this was a refreshing way to kick off the morning.

Schweitzer Falls: A combo of Sam’s Gorilla Grog (tropical fruit juices) and Sprite, this non-alcoholic concoction is perfect for those not imbibing who want a taste of Polynesia.

Service

The service was friendly, prompt, and efficient. There was a minor delivery mix-up, which was quickly corrected.

Overall Thoughts

The addition of breakfast to the Trader Sam’s lineup is a delightful new experience. Perfect for a resort day, you can soak up the island vibes and tropical flavors without the crowds and frenetic atmosphere of the evening rush. While the food was mixed quality, we will definitely return for a relaxed breakfast during a future visit.
