Amy and I were recently at Walt Disney World and we had the opportunity to check out some of the refurbishment projects that are going on at the Disney Vacation Club properties. Let’s dive into the latest updates on the BoardWalk refurbishment, the new food locations coming to the BoardWalk, and the construction progress of the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows.
BoardWalk Refurbishment
During our quick one-night stay at Disney’s BoardWalk Villas, it became evident that the room refurbishment project is nearing completion. The construction activity has significantly decreased compared to previous visits. Back when we did the DVC Fan Summerfest just a few weeks ago, there was a lot more construction work happening.
The increased room availability for July and August also indicates that more rooms are ready for guests. The Crest of the Wave section, previously covered in plywood, now looks beautiful with fresh paint. Though some touch-up work remains, the major refurbishment work is wrapping up nicely.

New Food Locations at the BoardWalk
Exciting food projects are also happening at the BoardWalk. The Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs stand is almost ready to open, possibly by July. Having tried their stuffed jalapeno popper at Disneyland, I’m eagerly anticipating its arrival here.
Another anticipated opening is the Cake Bake Shop, which now has a sign and looks close to completion. This project has been ongoing for a while, but it seems on track to open in 2024 as announced. The Cake Bake Shop will undoubtedly add a delightful new dining experience to the BoardWalk.

Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows
Jumping over to the Polynesian, the Island Tower construction is progressing rapidly. The main entrance and porte-cochère is taking shape with the framing in place. The roads and entrance area are also being reworked to alleviate congestion when the resort opens in December.
The exterior work is in full swing, with a significant number of workers on site. The pool area now has a defined shape, featuring a zero entry, staircase entry, and an adjacent hot tub. The finishing touches on the pool area are still underway, but the overall progress is impressive since the last time we visited.
We recently learned about a new restaurant coming to the Island Tower, and we’re pretty certain it is going to have stunning views of Seven Seas Lagoon. Artistic balcony railings are also beginning to be installed, adding to the tower’s aesthetic appeal with a unique design. The rooms are also advancing with drywall installations in progress. Disney’s recent interior concept art showcases the beautiful designs for the duo studio, deluxe studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and penthouse units.

The refurbishment projects at the BoardWalk and the construction of the Island Tower at the Polynesian are moving along swiftly. It’s an exciting time to be a Disney Vacation Club member with all these new updates and enhancements. Let us know in the comments how you feel about these updates and if you’re considering buying points at the Polynesian. June 11, 2024It’s sad to see the tranquil space and luau area gone. But the island tower looks Beautiful even though it’s a little jammed in there. Still it’s nice to have a variety of room types available. I’ve always wanted to own at the poly. I never bought the first round. This time I’m trying to get resale 150 points and waiting to see if I pass rofr. If that doesn’t work I probably will buy direct and am hoping the pricing isn’t too outrageous.
