Does Wailulu Bar & Grill Still Live Up to the Hype?

If you’ve heard the buzz about Wailulu Bar & Grill at Disney’s Polynesian Island Tower, you’re not alone. With its prime location and globally inspired menu, it seems everyone is talking about it. But is it still living up to the hype? We decided to find out during our recent visit—and spoiler alert, it didn’t disappoint!

The Disney Dining Setup

Wailulu Bar & Grill is a casual sit-down restaurant that requires no reservations similar to Geyser Point at Wilderness Lodge. You can join the waitlist via the My Disney Experience app, but only once you’re close by. This setup worked well for us, but walk-ups could mean longer wait times during peak hours.

Stellar Service

Right from the start, the service stood out. Our server, Karen, was warm, attentive, and super helpful with menu recommendations—perfect for a spot where deciding what to order feels like Mission Impossible (in the best way).

What We Ordered

Here’s a breakdown of what hit our table:

Appetizers

  • Ahi Tuna Crisps ($17): Marinated Ahi Tuna, crispy fried wontons, avocado crema, Sriracha Aioli, and soy glaze.

> Verdict? A knockout! The layers of flavor—from the creamy avocado to the tangy soy glaze—made this one of the best appetizers we’ve had on Disney property.

  • Musubi ($12): Glazed Spam, crispy rice pearls, furikake, and Sriracha honey.

> Verdict? Surprisingly excellent! It’s a playful, flavorful dish we didn’t expect to love (but absolutely did).

Entrées

  • Grilled Chicken Teriyaki Poke Bowl ($22): Sushi-style rice, pickled cucumbers, veggies, spicy poke sauce, macadamia nuts, and grilled chicken.

> Verdict? Light, fresh, and versatile. We’ve tried this with Ahi Tuna before and loved it, but the chicken brings just as much comfort and flavor.

  • Teriyaki Chicken Sliders ($22): Sweet buns with kimchi slaw, paired with mac salad or sweet potato fries.

> Verdict? A win! The chicken was marinated to perfection—tender and savory. The kimchi slaw added a flavorful zip that wasn’t too spicy. I opted for the mac salad side, which brought back memories of Polynesian luau nights. Jeff went with the fries which looked amazing.

  • Marinated Pork Chop ($31): Smashed potatoes, bacon vinaigrette, and kimchi slaw.

> Verdict? A surprise hit! Pork chops can be tricky, but this one nailed it. Juicy, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the sides.

There wasn’t a single misstep across the table. Every dish was fresh and packed with flavor.

Paul also had the Oceania Espresso Martini for $16.50 which he loved. This is Mr Black Cold Brew Liqueur, Selva Ray Chocolate Rum, and Joffery’s Coffee Espresso.

The Atmosphere

The ambiance at Wailulu Bar & Grill is relaxed yet vibrant, blending Polynesian charm with Disney magic. The location adds even more allure—finish dinner and head outside to catch the fireworks over at the beach. It’s a perfect way to cap off the evening (and Happily Ever After never gets old).

Still Worth the Hype?

Absolutely. Whether you’re a foodie searching for bold flavors or a Disney fan looking for a memorable dining experience, Wailulu delivers across the board. The standout flavors, friendly service, and unbeatable location make it a must-try.

We’ll definitely be back—partly because we’re still dreaming about that Ahi Tuna Crisps and partly because the loco moco and burger are calling our names.

If you’ve been to Wailulu, we’d love to hear your thoughts! What’s your favorite dish on the menu? Tell us all about it in the comments or share your experience over in the DVC Fan Facebook Group.

Wailulu Bar & Grill doesn’t just live up to the hype—it exceeds it. And honestly? We can’t wait to go back.

Pro Tip: Use the My Disney Experience app to get on the waitlist early during dinner rush, especially if fireworks are part of your plans!

My husband and I walked up for drinks and an appetizer one afternoon on our last trip in February. It was a little cool outside but the view was worth it! We really enjoy our drinks and the chicken wings. We can’t wait to go back when we are there next in June!

Absolutely agree … the food and atmosphere are spectacular. My wife and I were just there this week. I enjoyed one of those martinis every afternoon. Can’t wait to return.
