Dreaming Up The Next DVC

Several years ago, we originally asked our readers, “If you could build a new Disney Vacation Club Resort, where would it be, and what would be the theme? ” With so many more members in our DVC Fan Community now, I thought it would be fun to revisit the topic and ask what you would like to see as the next Disney Vacation Club Resort.

With looking at the aesthetics of both Disney’s Riviera Resort and the previously planned Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge as a guide for where we’ve been and where we should go next, my mind and imagination immediately take me to the ocean.  In this case, I believe Disney should look at making the next Disney Vacation Club property themed around the beauty and calmness of the Caribbean. While I think the moderate-level Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort does a nice job of bringing together elements of the Caribbean throughout the common areas of the resort, I would love to see what Disney could do with a deluxe Caribbean-themed resort, especially when it comes to the studios and villas. Plus, I wouldn’t mind seeing a new resort that gives Stormalong Bay a run for its money, as I can picture a similar Caribbean-themed pool.

One of the most relaxing and memorable vacations (prior to my wife, Amy, and I becoming full-blown Disney addicts) was our honeymoon trip to the southern coast of Jamaica.  Pristine white sand beaches paired with beautiful blue water and tropical vegetation provided an atmosphere that we never wanted to leave. The resort additionally had amazing dining options focused on fresh local ingredients from both the land and sea. Lastly, whether it be mid-morning, early afternoon, or late in the day, there were plenty of activities and entertainment for guests to enjoy.

We talk about immersion being important for resorts. Imagine a DVC resort that could instantly transport you to the Caribbean for a night, a week, or a rest day and then put you right back into the heart of Walt Disney World a moment later.  Or what if Disney actually built a new DVC property in the Caribbean itself? Something you could get to by taking a Disney Cruise? Perhaps even a resort located at the new Lighthouse Point private island? I know that for me, that would be a resort I would never want to leave.

Now it’s your turn!  Share in the comments below what you would like to see as the next Disney Vacation Club Resort and what type of theme it should have.

I would actually like to see a full on DVC resort at Disneyland, not just a few rooms at one of the hotels, but a complete DVC only resort, ideally on Harbor across from the pedestrian entrance.

Disneyland needs more DVC rooms desperately.

My first thought was instantly – Medieval castle. Breakfast with Sleeping Beauty, the 3 Faeries, or Maleficent. Moats. Catapults. Everything short of the black plague.

This is simple for me. What geographical area is completely omitted from all of WDW save for a booth at a festival here and there? Australia! Talk about immersion. Picture a gorgeous pool themed toward the Great Barrier Reef, a paddock similar to AKL evoking the uniqueness of the Outback with kangaroos hopping around, and interior areas dotted with Aboriginal art. Sprinkle in some IP with Finding Nemo and The Rescuers and Voila! A perfectly immersive, totally unique resort.

Would love to see a hotel based around Asia or even the middle east.

I prefer the Disney resorts that let me Escape to a place I can’t get too easily. The African Savannah of Animal Kingdom Lodge, or the South Seas of the Polynesian, or even the woodsy Northeast US of Wilderness Lodge. So in that I am kind of excited to see if Riviera can pull of the Europe Mediterranean Theme. So how about if we got a resort that harkens back to the original WDW plans – and a resort themed around the far east. Either specifically to China or less specifically to Southeast Asia. I think this could be a wonderful experience with Asian inspired landscapes and dining options.

Wow Paul that sounds awesome I’m with you in a Caribbean inspired themed resort that’s sound truly tranquil That is why The Polynesian resort is among my favorites with its fire torch lined walk ways and the soothing sounds of Hawaiian music you are immediately transported to a lush and tropical land like no one else but Disney has the ability to create. I have often though of a possible Italian “Venetian ” themed resort might be amazing I can imagine beautiful Piazza like Villas with Authentic rod Iron balcony’s the tranquil sounds of Italian music and fountains with running water looking down unto a Town square filled with enticing shops and restaurants and perhaps a water way where you can grab a Gondola ride to the parks. I can almost taste the gelato now.

Considering the small number of DVC rooms on the west coast, I’d really like to see the Paradise Pier Hotel and the parking lot behind it get transformed into something between the Disneyland Hotel and Aulani. I’d like to see a lazy river and something besides the typical pool area. Something to keep me in the hotel.
