As we get closer to the highly anticipated Grand Opening of the Polynesian Island Tower on December 17th, it’s clear that Disney is in full prep mode, working hard to bring everything together. With just over a month to go, this may be our final construction update as we approach the big day!
Exterior Progress and Landscaping
Right now, there’s a flurry of activity around the exterior landscaping of the building with lots of dirt being moved around during our visit. Much of the building work is currently centered around the tropical garden terraces. These terraces are surrounded by scaffolding and are being carefully crafted to bring that lush Polynesian feel to life. I also noticed a subtle detail I’ve missed previously —what appears to be some Duo Studio, Deluxe Studio, and Penthouse Villa balconies have glass exteriors, while other balconies feature ornate railings reminiscent of Animal Kingdom Lodge.

The Cove Pool Has Water!
One of the most exciting updates from this visit was over at The Cove Pool—it’s filled! With just a few final touches needed, this pool area already looks quite inviting, although small. All it needs now are the lounge chairs and a few last details to be ready for guests. Through the trees, we also caught a glimpse of Moana and her Wayfinder at the feature splash pad, which will be a highlight for families enjoying the new pool space.

Inside the Island Tower: Rooms and Finishing Touches
Peeking into the building’s interior, it appears that most rooms are nearly complete. From what we could see through the windows, the furniture and cosmetic touches are already in place. All that’s likely left are the finishing details, including a thorough cleaning, fresh linens, and towels to prepare for guest arrivals. It was surprising and impressive to see how close everything looks to being guest-ready!

Wailulu Bar & Grill – A Sneak Peek
The Wailulu Bar & Grill is also coming together nicely. Tap lines are already installed at the bar, and some of the built-in booth seating has been set up. We’re still waiting on word about the menu and reservation details, but we can’t wait to taste what this Island Tower dining experience has to offer.

Will It All Be Ready in Time? Don’t Worry!
If you’re looking at this update and wondering if they can really finish by December 17th, don’t fret! Disney has a knack for pulling everything together just in time. During the opening of Big Pine Key at the Grand Floridian, they were adding landscaping up to the last minute, and at the Disneyland Hotel Villas, the scent of fresh paint lingered even as guests were checking in. They like to cut it close, but Disney always gets it done, and we’re thrilled to be so close to the big reveal!
