Disney Vacation Club Hurricane Policy: Everything You Need to Know

Hurricane Disney World

So you’re set to embark on your Disney Vacation Club getaway – but what happens when Mother Nature has other plans? Understanding DVC’s hurricane policies can give you peace of mind, knowing you’re prepared for any weather-related contingencies that might affect your vacation. So what happens when a hurricane decides to gatecrash your dream vacation? Fear not; DVC has robust policies in place to ensure you and your points are protected during such unforeseen circumstances. Let’s take a stroll through these policies as detailed on DVC’s official website!

Policy Overview

Disney Vacation Club’s hurricane policy is designed to provide flexibility and assurance to members in the event of a hurricane warning. The policy applies when the National Hurricane Center issues a warning for the Orlando area, or for the member’s place of residence, within seven days of the scheduled arrival date.

What Happens If a Warning is Issued?

If a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area—or your place of residence—within seven days of your scheduled arrival, you may call DVC Member Services prior to check-in to cancel or modify your reservation without any cancellation penalties or modification fees.

What If You’re Already Checked In?

If you have already checked in when a hurricane warning is issued, you can call Member Services to reschedule the remaining part of your stay. Again, there would be no cancellation or modification charges applied in this circumstance.

What About Points?

Your vacation points will not be lost due to the hurricane. DVC will ensure that any points used for the affected part of the stay will be returned to your account, regardless of the booking window. Points affected will also not be subject to “Holding” rules and will return to the Use Year in which they came from.

Important Considerations

It’s important to note that this policy only covers accommodations booked through DVC. If you’ve made arrangements with third-party vendors for elements of your vacation such as flights, car hire, or tickets, you’ll need to check their individual policies regarding hurricanes.

Additionally, DVC’s hurricane policy only comes into effect if a hurricane warning is officially issued by the National Hurricane Center. Lesser weather warnings or advisories won’t trigger the policy.

While no one wants to think about natural disasters during their dream vacation, it’s always good to be prepared. Disney Vacation Club’s hurricane policy provides a safety net for members, ensuring that they can adjust their plans without financial penalty in the face of a serious storm. Be sure to keep an eye on the weather forecasts and stay in contact with DVC Member Services for the latest updates. We highly recommend following Dennis Phillips for the latest Florida weather updates and how or if the storm might impact your trip!
