RUMOR: Grand Californian DVC Refurbishment Coming Soon!

Rumor has it that a full refurbishment might be on the horizon for The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Resort & Spa!

We first caught wind of this thanks to some intriguing photos sent to us from Megan McDavid, who is currently staying in a ground-floor Deluxe Studio at the Grand Californian. The pictures show a new Murphy Bed that sticks out like a sore thumb amidst the familiar decor of the room.

This isn’t just a case of an unexplained bed appearing out of nowhere. A recent construction permit filed for the Grand Californian states, “Tenant Improvement: Install (2) murphy bed/couch systems with new wall anchorage.” So, it seems the new bed isn’t just a random addition but a part of something much bigger.

Now, we know what you’re thinking. A new bed doesn’t necessarily mean a full refurbishment. And you’d be right. But consider this: the bed doesn’t feature any Disney-inspired artwork, which is a staple of DVC resorts. This leads us to believe that this could be a test run for the long-overdue refurbishment that the Grand Californian needs.

Some of you might remember that a refurbishment for the Grand Californian was announced at the 2021 DVC Condo Association Meeting. However, last year’s meeting saw the resort removed from the upcoming refurbishments list. So, what gives?

Well, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that these Murphy Bed tests are a sign of things to come. Perhaps we’ll be hearing more about an upcoming Grand Californian refurbishment at this year’s DVC Condo Association meeting on December 7th.
