Just wanted to share a quick story from when we purchased our DVC contract back in 1999—it might help others who are trying to figure out how many points to buy.

We had a great guide named Tony Heard (if I recall correctly), and my wife asked him for the weekly point requirement for a one-bedroom at the Boardwalk at Christmas. He told us it was roughly 350 points. She then asked if that amount would cover a two-bedroom every other year. He said yes, since most two-bedroom stays at the Boardwalk (depending on the season) are less than 700 points per week. She looked at me, said “buy 350 points,” and that was it—the decision was made on the spot.

We didn’t ask about the cost per point or do any complex math. But it turned out to be a great choice. The Boardwalk has always been our favorite resort, and we’ve rarely felt like we don’t have enough points.

Hope this helps anyone else doing their own DVC planning!

    Thanks,
    Rick

Our journey began with enough points to get a VGF studio regardless of time of year or view for about 1 week. That got us in the 200 point range. Then our first trip was in a 2 bdrm villa because that was what was available at the next time we wanted to travel (since in the next use year, we had plenty of points to cover it) and we had room for our daughter to bring a friend. As Derek said, once you stay in the larger villa, you can’t go back. Our add-ons are in the 200 point range to cover a 2 bdrm villa for Sunday-Friday (“cheap” nights). Then came COVID and suddenly we had enough points for multiple villas and invited extended family (~18 people). We had so much fun we needed more points to do this every other year though now with ~25 people.
