A New Frontier Awaits Magic Kingdom With Exciting Expansion Plans

Magic Kingdom Frontierland Expansion Concept Art

Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is about to undergo one of the most exciting transformations in its history. We have been treated to fresh details and stunning concept art this morning that reveal a significant expansion in Frontierland, primarily inspired by Pixar Animation Studios’ beloved “Cars” franchise.

Frontierland’s Transformation Plans

Excitement is in the air as Magic Kingdom prepares for a high-octane makeover. The Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will soon be transformed into rugged terrains filled with thrilling rally races. This means that 2024 will be the last year for guests to experience Frontierland in its current form before the big changes take place.

Disney has always been about storytelling, and expanding Frontierland offers a fresh canvas to tell new stories. The introduction of Pixar’s “Cars” to this area will bring a contemporary twist to the classic Western theme, appealing to a broader audience and ensuring the park remains relevant for future generations.

Closing of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island

To make way for this new expansion, the beloved Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will be closing within the coming year. While this may be bittersweet for some fans, it’s an essential step in paving the way for the thrilling new experiences that lie ahead.

Introducing Pixar’s “Cars” to Frontierland

The new Magic Kingdom expansion will center around Pixar’s “Cars,” promising to deliver adrenaline-pumping excitement. Imagine racing through mountains and splashing through mudholes in an immersive rally race experience. Not only will this bring new life to Frontierland, but it will also offer something for every age group, from high-speed adventures to family-friendly activities.

What to Expect from the New Attractions

High-Octane Rides

Fans of the “Cars” franchise, brace yourselves. The expansion will feature two exhilarating new rides that will allow guests to race through mountainous terrains and muddy paths. These attractions are designed to provide a high-energy experience, complete with spectacular visuals and heart-pounding moments.

Family-Friendly Fun

But it’s not all about speed and thrills. A more gentle, family-friendly attraction will also be part of this new land. This ensures that younger guests and families can enjoy the magic without missing out on the fun.

Good news for DVC members: The new DVC Member Lounge, coming to the former Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade space, will offer a front-row seat to the new land, providing a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere.

Construction Timeline for Frontierland

While exact dates are still under wraps, here’s what we know so far about the Magic Kingdom expansion plans:

  • 2024 will be the final year to enjoy the current state of Frontierland.
  • Construction for the new “Cars” attractions will kick off in 2025, with a projected completion date still to be announced.

I dont know why I am sad to see the Rivers of America go, nostalgia I guess:(

The 8-year-old in me will miss Tom Sawyer Island; what a great place to explore. Not all attractions have to be fast paced and high tech. But I’m even more sad to see Rivers of America go (I can understand TS Island). That boat just represents such a feel for early America, really sad to see it have to go.

For me, its more about losing the open space and ambiance provide by the riverboat and the rafts going over to the island. I also loved to watch the fireworks from the tom sawyer raft docks. I’m sure the new attractions will be fun, but its seems crammed in there.
