At the Old Key West Condo Association meeting this morning, we received confirmation that Disney’s Old Key West Resort will soon begin a significant refurbishment, focusing on living areas. According to Jeff Haslam, who attended the resort’s condo association meeting this morning, the project is more substantial than originally expected. Though the resort is coming up on it’s soft‑goods update, Disney Vacation Club administration is treating it as a “semi hard goods” cycle. They have let us know that kitchens, living rooms, and bedrooms will be replaced, not just carpets or curtains and other soft goods.
What “Soft Goods” vs “Semi Hard Goods” Means
Normally a soft‑goods refurbishment means replacing items such as carpet, bedding, curtains, and upholstery. These are cosmetic updates meant to refresh the look and feel without altering the core structure or major fixtures.
By contrast the current refurbishment at Old Key West is being described as “semi hard goods.” This signals a far more extensive overhaul.
This level of renovation surpasses what many Members expected given it was originally scheduled as a soft‑goods cycle and represents one of the more comprehensive living‑area refurbishments Old Key West has seen in some time.

Other Member Questions and What We Know So Far:
During the meeting some Members asked specific questions about possible enhancements. Two in particular stood out:
Will Old Key West get Murphy beds?
When asked whether Murphy beds might be added during the refurbishment, the DVC administration said they were “deep into planning,” but had no concrete update to share. That suggests it remains a possibility, but no promises were made.
Could a Skyliner connection come to Old Key West?
Members asked whether a connection to Disney Skyliner was being considered. The answer was candid: while the idea is interesting and fun to dream about, there is currently nothing to report on that front. So at least for now, the Skyliner remains speculative.
The upcoming Old Key West refurbishment represents a welcome upgrade for DVC Members and guests alike. What was expected to be a modest soft‑goods refresh has evolved into a significant semi hard‑goods renovation that will bring kitchens, living rooms, and bedrooms up to date. While some hoped‑for features like Murphy beds or a Skyliner remain uncertain, the core living‑area overhaul promises to deliver a substantial improvement in comfort and quality.

December 10, 2025What great news! Thanks, Amy! We love OKW and stay there every January. The pullout sofa in the 1BR is awful, but none of us can figure out how they’d find a place for a queen Murphy bed unless they cover up a window. Fingers crossed that they find a way!
