DVC Increases One-Time-Use Point Pricing

Disney Vacation Club Members are seeing another price increase on one-time-use points, but this time the change is not as straightforward as past adjustments. While Disney continues to advertise a price of $20 per point, taxes and fees are now being added separately, bringing the true cost to approximately $22.50 per point.

This represents an effective increase of 12.5% over the previously advertised all-in price, and many Members are calling attention to how this change is being presented.

What Changed With One-Time-Use Points Pricing?

Previously, Disney Vacation Club advertised one-time-use points at a flat rate of $20 per point, and that price included all taxes and fees. What you saw was what you paid.

Now, while the base price remains listed at $20 per point, additional taxes and fees are applied at checkout. This brings the real out-of-pocket cost to about $22.50 per point.

Key Difference

  • Before: $20 per point all-in
  • Now: $20 per point plus taxes and fees
  • Effective total: ~$22.50 per point

This pricing shift results in a 12.5% increase in actual cost without a clearly advertised change to the base price. From a Member perspective, the increase may feel less transparent than prior adjustments.

How Does This Compare to the Previous Increase?

Back in 2023, Disney Vacation Club formally announced a price increase from $19 to $22 per point. That change was clearly communicated and represented about a 14% increase.

At that time, Disney stated:

“We’re reaching out with an important Member update regarding one-time-use (OTU) Vacation Points…”

The price also decreased several months later back to the $ 20-per-point rate it was at before today’s changes.

What Are One-Time-Use Points?

One-time-use points are temporary Vacation Points that Disney Vacation Club Members can purchase to supplement their existing points balance.

They are especially useful when you are just a few points short of completing a reservation.

Key Features of One-Time-Use Points

  • Available to eligible Members each Use Year
  • Limited to 24 points per Use Year
  • Can only be used within the 7-month booking window
  • Valid for:
    • Disney Vacation Club resort stays
    • Disney Collection reservations
    • World Collection exchanges

These points are not deeded and do not carry over beyond the reservation they are used for.

How Do You Buy One-Time-Use Points?

Purchasing one-time-use points is a straightforward process, but it must be done directly through Disney Vacation Club.

Steps to Purchase

  1. Call Disney Vacation Club Member Services
  2. Request one-time-use points for your reservation
  3. Complete payment over the phone

Member Services will confirm availability and apply the points directly to your booking.

Why This Matters for Members

While a $2.50 increase per point may seem small, it adds up quickly, especially when purchasing the full 24-point allotment.

Example Cost Comparison

  • Old total (24 points): $480
  • New total (24 points): $540
  • Difference: +$60

For Members who rely on one-time-use points to complete reservations, this change could impact vacation budgeting and planning strategies.

From an analytical perspective, this also raises questions about transparency. The advertised price has not changed, but the real cost has increased, which may catch some Members off guard.

Disney Vacation Club one-time-use points remain a helpful tool for Members who need a small number of additional points. However, the latest pricing change introduces a higher effective cost and a less transparent structure than previous increases.

As always, Members should evaluate whether purchasing one-time-use points makes sense compared to alternatives such as renting points through services like DVC Rental Store.

I’ve purchased on 2 occasions to extend a trip. I did it last year when there was still the 50% borrowing restriction but wanted a 5 night WDW followed by a 4 night Vero to get the rooms I wanted.
I felt it was worth it and added value to the trip. I’d probably do it again if needed for the extra $3.

I have used the OTU points 2 or 3 times and was worth the cost but this is a big increase from when we purchased them at $15 a point!
If needed I will use but not happy about the increase of $70 for 24 pts.
That along with the 7 seasons for points it just seems like everything is costing more.

Do you know if there’s a new tax being levied? Or is this just Disney taking previous “tax included” price and raising it, then excluding taxes to make it look like the price is the same?

is this so they don’t have to raise the price that they pay members who take advantage of membership begins?
