Paul lives in Orlando, Florida with his wife, Amy, and their three Spanish galgos, Hermès, Cinders, and Emerson. They’re Disney Vacation Club Members at five resorts, Disney World Annual Passholders, and always on the lookout for new ways to enjoy and maximize their DVC points. When he’s not at the parks or planning their next trip, Paul loves cooking (big Alton Brown fan), training for Disney races with Amy, and blasting Billy Joel in the background.

We stayed at Wilderness once and loved it but found travel very slow even compared to AK which is far away from everything.

I found this video on Wilderness Lodge bewildering. Are they talking about the same WL that I stayed at recently? That I stayed at as a member before selling my points there?
I sold my points 7 years ago and bought at AKL the trip when the furniture at WL was shabby, the phone didn’t work, and the TV was broken. And that was the second trip as a member after the first was also disappointing.
My last trip found the food at the loud sit down restaurant very subpar and the service non existent. The food at Artist Point was good but very overpriced – something I might go to once every few years but not a reliable resort restaurant. Restaurants are important at a deluxe restaurant and WL misses dramatically.
I also found the room run down. The transportation options are so much worse than other resorts. Standing out in the rain waiting for a windy boat is not my idea of a good time. Give me a nice enclosed monorail – or a bus that comes often!
I am sure the cabins must be nice but no one I know can afford them… I continue to own at BCV, BWV and at AKL – all places I love. And when I do stay at a MK resort i chose either the POLY which had wonderful studios or at the Contemporary where I can walk or ride the monorail and dine at wonderful restaurants.

I have to giggle at Pete’s comment about old people hanging their clothes. Years ago, we would laugh when we’d see “older” people who appeared to be traveling somewhere, with a rope across the back seat with all their clothesacross. But with the recent updates of the studios to accommodate five [NOT a fan!!], it has taken away any worthwhile drawer storage. For the last five years, we hang our shirts/dresses (using our own hangers) and half fold them in the suitcase, then just pull them out when we unpack. We make use of the closet space but still have whatever small space for underwear and shorts.

Something I wish had been mentioned in the video is the travel time to get to anywhere that isn’t the magic kingdom. We ended up just taking our car everywhere after the 2nd day when we stayed at copper creek; which was a shame, we usually prefer waiting for and taking the bus.

We love Wilderness lodge. We own at BWV and BRV, and while we are eagerly awaiting the BRV refurb, we still love the overall ambiance of the resort, the service (especially at Geyser Point) and the pools. I concur that travel to Epcot/HS can be long, but almost every resort has a long bus ride to at least one of the parks. We take an Uber if we don’t want to wait, but since my current traveling party is all adults, we are pretty relaxed about the buses. I also love the fact that the Reunion Station has wine/cocktail classes, and the other events that they offer (photography, etc) are really fun.
