UPDATE 4/2/2021: As a further indication that Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge has been permanently canceled, construction permits have emerged today for the removal of several “office trailers” from the surrounding property. This removal further validates the cancellation or long-term delay of this project, although we will likely never receive an official confirmation from Disney on the subject.

In what may be the first of many noticeable cuts due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, rumors are emerging today that Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge may officially be canceled.

In a post on the DVC Fan Facebook Group earlier today, DISBoards Rumors and News Moderator and DIS Contributor Ryan Teetz reported Project 89, the project name for Reflections, is rumored to have been canceled. This rumor originated in a forum on WDWMagic.com by a well-known source.

Digging into this a bit further, we discovered that any mention of Reflections appears to have vanished from the Disney Vacation Club and Disney Parks Blog websites.  Similar to other disappearances of announced projects throughout Disney’s history, this is a notable development since we believe articles used to exist on these websites about Reflections.

It has been reported that crews have been onsite recently removing materials from the former River Country property. Also, in a recent aerial photo on Twitter from @bioreconstruct, there is a noticeable absence of construction equipment and cranes at the construction site. Grass seed has also been sprayed over a large portion of the property.

Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge was planned to be Disney’s 16th Disney Vacation Club property and previously scheduled to open in 2022. The rumored cancelation is likely the product of a combination of effects surrounding the current resort closures.

Despite this cancelation, plans for the Disneyland Hotel DVC Tower in Anaheim, California, appear to continue to move forward.

No official announcement has been made by Disney or Disney Vacation Club at this time and this news remains a rumor. Stay tuned to DVC Fan and our DVC Fan Facebook Group for more information as it becomes available!

  • Cuts will need to be made and perhaps this is an easier solution for Disney to put this on the shelf, There are too many projects already started that have to be finished, Hotels, Restaurants, Rides and of course the remodel of Epcot, all of these are well into construction and the easier one to shelf for now is Reflections, Not surprised and do not think it will be the last one put on hold or may never see the light of day.

    • Very good points. This project was not too far along so canceling makes the most sense. This could be just a delay, we’ll see.

  • Hopefully just a rumor

  • I hope not, it sounded like a cool resort, but cuts are going to have to be made somewhere.

  • This was cancelled, but the Star Wars hotel (never going to be profitable) is going forward? What are they thinking!

  • That is what happened to the other half of POP Century after 9/11. And Art of Animation gave them time to improve the use of the property in a timely manner.

  • Not too many loyal campers at Fort Wilderness were please with the original announcement of construction of this project. Many (myself included) would love to see more loops and sites added for camping as reservations are so difficult to get if you aren’t staying in a Cabin.

  • They need to stop adding rooms. Parks (pre-pandemic) were too crowded. Until there are more places for people to go on property, there is no need for more rooms.
