Polynesian and Grand Floridian Refurbishments to Include NEW Pull-Down Murphy Beds

Murphy Beds are headed to Disney’s Polynesian and Grand Floridian Villas as part of their scheduled Disney Vacation Club soft-goods refurbishments!

In an article shared on Disney Parks Blog, Disney Files Magazine Editor Ryan March confirmed that this popular addition would appear at both resorts:

“Coupled with renovations scheduled for completion this fall inside the villas at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, and refurbishment work set to begin this November at The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa (with both projects involving installation of foldaway beds behind living room sofas – a feature made famous at Disney’s Riviera Resort before becoming part of the recent refurbishment of Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa), these projects are part of an ongoing commitment to continuous improvement that keeps our neighborhood of resorts ahead of the curve.”

Earlier this month, we shared the first look at images of a refurbished bungalow at Disney’s Polynesian Villas, which hinted at the possible inclusion of these pull-down Murphy couch beds throughout the resort.

Over in the DVC Fan Facebook Group, member Rob Krawiecki broke the news yesterday that Murphy beds appeared to be making their way into Pago Pago, which has already started its soft-goods refurbishment.

Throughout the Polynesian’s planned refresh, the furniture appears to have been reupholstered with lighter teal, blue, and different tropical colors. New vibrant carpet inserts have also replaced the outdated grey and beige carpeting previously throughout the villas.

Other minor changes include adding updated appliances, including a coffee pot/Keurig combo and other small touches throughout the bungalows.

Noticeably absent are any Moana touches, with Lilo and Stitch featured prominently in a large painting on the new pull-down Murphy bed.

Murphy beds seem to be here to stay, and we can only hope to continue to see them incorporated into future Disney Vacation Club Resort refurbishment projects. Let us know in the comments what you think of the addition of these Murphy beds throughout Disney’s Polynesian and Grand Floridian Villas and what new touches you also hope to see incorporated into these refreshed accommodations!

  • Pleeeeeeeease tell me that this soft refurb with the Murphy beds will be completed in the DVC poly area before the 50th! We have been planning a trip for 18 months and will be there in Nov for the big 50th celebration. We are bringing two older relatives who absolutely have to have their own bathroom. We also need the kitchenette. We will be devastated if we get moved to the hotel side. Yes I’ve seen the renovated rooms and they look nice however they still are hotel rooms and not what we paid DVC for. I like the idea of the Murphy bed system however I’m very concerned about the timing why would they start it so late and so close to the 50th. Can you please shed some light on timelines and what their plans are for all the people who have reservations.

    • Plans have the refurbishment complete by the 50th and they seem to be moving quickly!

  • Grand Floridian definitely needs a refurb. We were there for 8 days in a 2 bed in May and noticed a lot of wear and tear.

  • Fantastic!! My idea of a luxury villa never was having to sleep on an uncomfortable sleeper sofa.
