When most guests think about dining at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, ‘Ohana tends to dominate the conversation. But right next door, Kona Cafe has quietly become one of our most consistent dining choices at the resort.
We recently stopped by Kona Cafe for lunch to revisit the restaurant, try several dishes, look at current pricing, and answer a question we hear pretty often: Is Kona Cafe actually better than ‘Ohana?

Why We Keep Coming Back to Kona Cafe
Kona Cafe does not necessarily have the same destination dining reputation as ‘Ohana, but that can also be part of its appeal.
The restaurant offers a much more relaxed meal in the middle of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, with a menu that provides plenty of variety without requiring the fixed price commitment of ‘Ohana. Reservations can also frequently be easier to find, which makes Kona a great option for DVC Members staying at the Polynesian or anyone looking for a break during a Magic Kingdom day.
During our lunch, we tried several popular menu items while taking a closer look at portion sizes, pricing, atmosphere, and the overall dining experience.
Is Kona Cafe Better Than ‘Ohana?
That ultimately depends on what you want from your meal.
‘Ohana is much more of an experience, with its family style menu and signature Polynesian atmosphere. Kona Cafe feels more like a casual restaurant you could comfortably return to multiple times during a Disney vacation.
And that consistency is exactly why Kona continues to stand out for us.
It may not receive as much attention as its neighbor, but if you are looking for a relaxed meal, a varied menu, and one of the more dependable dining options at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Kona Cafe deserves to be on your list.
