First Look at The Wetlands at Disney Lakeshore Lodge Reveals Pools, Lazy River, and Pocahontas Inspired Play Areas

Disney has shared the first official details about The Wetlands at Disney Lakeshore Lodge, an expansive outdoor recreation area that will serve as the heart of the resort’s pool and recreation offerings when the new Disney Vacation Club resort opens at Walt Disney World.

Located just beyond the resort lobby and surrounded by the natural beauty of Bay Lake, The Wetlands is designed to blend recreation, relaxation, and storytelling. From a lazy river and feature pool to whimsical play areas inspired by Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Pocahontas, the new space appears to be one of the most ambitious resort recreation complexes Disney Vacation Club has ever created.

What Is The Wetlands at Disney Lakeshore Lodge?

The Wetlands is a sweeping outdoor recreation area that will offer guests multiple ways to unwind and connect with nature. Disney says the area has been thoughtfully designed to balance moments of tranquility with opportunities for discovery and play.

Guests staying at Disney Lakeshore Lodge will have access to:

  • Daydream River lazy river
  • Lakeside Lagoon feature pool
  • Perspective Pond leisure pool and whirlpool spa
  • Heron Shores dry play area
  • Otter Springs interactive water play area
  • Scenic walking paths featuring educational elements about local wildlife and plants

The recreation area sits along Bay Lake, continuing the resort’s nature inspired theme and reinforcing the connection between the lodge and its waterfront setting.

A Pocahontas Inspired Play Experience for Young Guests

One of the most unique aspects of The Wetlands is its inspiration from Disney’s Pocahontas.

Disney revealed that the children’s play spaces draw inspiration from the lyrics, “the heron and the otter are my friends,” from the beloved song Colors of the Wind. The themed areas are designed to celebrate playful connections found in nature.

Heron Shores

Heron Shores will encourage exploration and imaginative play through climbing elements and hands on activities. The area appears designed to let children become active participants in nature’s story while burning off some energy between pool visits.

Otter Springs

Just around the riverbend, Otter Springs will feature interactive water elements where younger guests can splash, slide, and cool off. The themed play area adds another family friendly recreation option that extends beyond traditional resort pools.

For Disney Vacation Club families, these dedicated spaces could become a major highlight of staying at Disney Lakeshore Lodge.

Daydream River Brings a Lazy River to Disney Lakeshore Lodge

Perhaps the biggest reveal for many Disney fans is Daydream River, the resort’s lazy river.

The leisurely water attraction will allow guests to float through The Wetlands while taking in views of the surrounding landscape. Lazy rivers remain a popular feature at destination resorts, and its addition gives Disney Lakeshore Lodge a recreation offering unlike any currently available at a Disney Vacation Club resort.

Whether guests begin their day with a peaceful float or enjoy a relaxing afternoon between park visits, Daydream River could quickly become one of the resort’s signature experiences.

Lakeside Lagoon Will Serve as the Resort’s Main Pool

At the center of The Wetlands will be Lakeside Lagoon, the resort’s zero entry feature pool.

The pool will include:

  • A spacious zero entry design
  • Areas for guests of all ages to gather
  • A spiral waterslide
  • Views of the surrounding recreation area

Zero entry pools have become increasingly popular at Disney resorts because they create an inviting environment for families with younger children while remaining accessible and enjoyable for guests of all ages.

Perspective Pond Offers Fireworks Views

On the opposite side of the resort, guests will discover Perspective Pond, a more relaxed recreation area featuring:

  • Leisure pool
  • Whirlpool spa
  • Evening views of Magic Kingdom fireworks

The combination of a quieter pool setting and fireworks views could make Perspective Pond one of the most desirable evening spots at Disney Lakeshore Lodge.

Guests Will Discover More Than Pools and Play Areas

Disney also revealed that The Wetlands will include scenic walking paths featuring fun facts about the local flora and fauna surrounding Bay Lake.

Perhaps even more intriguing, guests are encouraged to keep an eye out for a special plaque honoring a beloved historic attraction that once occupied this site. Disney did not reveal additional details, but the tribute is likely to become another point of interest for longtime Walt Disney World fans.
