The Magic Behind Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows Coming to Disney+ This June

Polynesian Island Tower

Disney Vacation Club Members and Disney fans will soon get a brand new behind-the-scenes look at one of Walt Disney World’s newest resorts when The Magic Behind Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows premieres June 10 on Disney+.

The newly announced special will spotlight the artists, Imagineers, and creative teams who helped bring the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows to life. According to the official description, viewers will explore the inspiration, storytelling, and craftsmanship behind the newest Disney Vacation Club destination located alongside the beloved Polynesian Village Resort.

Disney describes the feature as:

“A behind-the-scenes look at the artists and Imagineers whose craft and creativity shaped Disney’s newest addition, the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. Celebrate the spirit of the South Pacific at this oasis of tropical palms, lush vegetation and much more through unique perspectives and storytelling from those who brought this newest offering to life. Discover a tropical escape, nestled in the midst of the magic with tropical terrace gardens that pay homage to the islands of Bora Bora, Hawaii, Samoa and Fiji.”

A New Look at Disney’s Newest DVC Resort

For Disney Vacation Club fans, this special could offer one of the most detailed looks yet at the design philosophy behind the Island Tower. From its tropical landscaping to the layered cultural influences woven throughout the resort, the documentary appears poised to highlight the intentional storytelling Disney Imagineering is known for.

It is honestly hard to believe we are already approaching essentially 18-months since the Island Tower first opened its doors. The resort quickly became one of the most talked about additions to the Disney Vacation Club lineup, sparking plenty of discussion among Members about its bold modern design, room layouts, and connection to the original Polynesian aesthetic.

This Disney+ feature should give fans an opportunity to experience the resort through a completely different lens. Rather than simply touring rooms or amenities, viewers will likely get a deeper appreciation for the artistry, cultural inspirations, and creative decisions that shaped the tower from concept to completion.

The Island Tower has been especially interesting because it represents both an expansion of a classic resort and a new direction for Disney Vacation Club accommodations at Walt Disney World. Fans who may still be forming opinions about the tower could come away with a greater understanding of the creative vision behind the project.

It will also be fun for longtime Polynesian fans to see how Imagineers incorporated nods to Bora Bora, Hawaii, Samoa, and Fiji into the resort’s gardens, architecture, and atmosphere.

If you enjoy Imagineering documentaries and resort storytelling, you will likely want to add this to your Disney+ watchlist. The Polynesian remains one of the most iconic resorts at Walt Disney World, and this special could provide valuable insight into how Disney balanced honoring that legacy while creating something entirely new for modern DVC Members.

We will definitely be tuning in for this one.
