For a lot of us DVC Members, Disney World, Disneyland, or the DVC resorts themselves are our happy place. However, beyond the mere magic and joy we get from fun theme park experiences, maybe the happiness we get from DVC runs a little deeper than that. Here are just some of the ways in which DVC can be the ultimate mood booster.
Experiences Over Material Goods
Sure, Disney merchandise is fun, but there is no question that the memories we make during vacation provide much longer lasting happiness. Just thinking back to a favorite moment during a previous trip can make you smile. Every so often I find myself watching the video of when my then-infant son met Goofy for the first time and wouldn’t let go of his hand–it still makes me laugh. With DVC offering decades worth of vacations, there are a whole lot of great memories to be made!
Sharing with Loved Ones
Speaking of memories, some of the most special trips are those with extended family or friends. Thanks to the flexibility of DVC, we can bring along more guests fairly easily. Sharing our favorite place with our favorite people is such a wonderful gift. I was lucky enough to visit Disney World every year as a child. Now that I am a DVC Member, it’s come full circle, and it’s extra special to now be able to take my mom to Disney World.

Anticipatory Savoring
For many of us, having that next trip planned is a must! Half the fun is watching that countdown and planning out all the reservations and details. With DVC, it’s not uncommon to have more than one trip on the calendar. Dreaming of the next trip (or trips) can certainly help get you through a rough work week or the trials and tribulations of everyday life!
Mindfulness and Peace
They say that being more mindful and being in the present brings peace and happiness, and in a way, DVC does help us slow down and live in the moment. Having DVC and knowing that you’ll be back again means you won’t feel guilty going at a slower pace and actually having a more restful Disney vacation. Instead of rushing from attraction to attraction, you’ll find that you can savor the simpler joys like enjoying the view from your balcony or just taking the time to soak in the ambiance of the theme parks and the little details that you’d normally walk right past.

Joining Like-Minded People
Connecting with people who share similar interests can also bring a lot of joy, and what better example is there than the DVC Fan community? There’s no judgement about why you like Disney–no one is going to ask “why do you go to Disney so often?” It’s always fun to talk about all things DVC and Disney with those who get it and are just as excited about things like resort refurbishments and Right of First Refusal (ROFR) reports.
Not to be dramatic, but DVC really is more than just another timeshare. While DVC isn’t necessarily a financial investment, I think we can safely consider it an investment in our happiness.
