July 8, 2024Love the show! We bought from Derek last year at AKL (175 pts) with a DEC UY. We since then added on GFV direct (150) and SSR (160). All with the same UY. We were thinking of adding on another contract resale but with an Aug or Sept UY. But after listening to your show we have decided to stay with the same UY. You gave great advice. Now where will we add on… AKL because we love it or BLT, CCV ??? Oh! How some decisions are hard to take!! 🤣 Keep up the great work.

July 8, 2024Confession time:
My first error was booking a vacation in the next Use Year thinking I was using points from the current Use Year. To be fair this was the very first DVC villa I booked just DAYS after buying a contract on a DCL cruise. Fortunately I was able to bank then modify the reservation to use the banked points (this was back in the days when you had to call to make a modification).
My second error caught me completely unawares. I had an existing BLT reservation using my VGF points and had just closed on a BLT resale contract and had the points loaded (some banked) in time to swap them out for the VGF points used — or so I thought. Yes, it was less than 31 days until the stay started but hey, I was just MODIFYING the reservation not cancelling it. Well no, modifying the reservation (except for guests) is a cancel and reserve operation in the DVC system. My precious VGF points went into HOLDING. Oops! I called member services and threw myself on their mercy accepting all blame for my circumstances. The CM rolled out a barrel of pixie dust and pulled my VGF points out of holding and went a step further to restore the points I had borrowed to their Use Year.
What did I learn from this? Be kind, ALWAYS!
