Old Key West Resort Spotlight

In this episode, we continue the RESORT SPOTLIGHT series – highlighting a focus on just one resort in detail. Next up is Disney’s Old Key West Resort!

About Author

Paul lives in Orlando, Florida with his wife, Amy, and their three Spanish galgos, Hermès, Cinders, and Emerson. They’re Disney Vacation Club Members at five resorts, Disney World Annual Passholders, and always on the lookout for new ways to enjoy and maximize their DVC points. When he’s not at the parks or planning their next trip, Paul loves cooking (big Alton Brown fan), training for Disney races with Amy, and blasting Billy Joel in the background.

We joined in 1991. Two of our pictures are on the walls. My husbands Fire Dept patch is in the suitcase.

As grandparents who joined when our kids were 6 months and 6 yrs old-yes they think it’s our house.
As original members we could tell you stories…
    Clarifications
Yes the sauna is in the lighthouse
Points were $50. minimum buy was 230 points. And free park passes until 2,000. Based on room size. Studios got 2. 1 bedrooms got 4 etc.
Gurgling Suitcase used to use great glass stirrers with Disney Vacation Club etched on them. Discontinued due to broken glass by pool. We have a bunch.
Hospitality is not down Millers Rd all the way. Half of Peninsular is hospitality
Next trip is this May in a grand villa with all 3 generations!

Also as someone who bought in December, 1991, with a February, 1992, beginning use year, and a granddaughter named Olivia, we feel as if Old Key West Resort is our 2nd home. The price and perks originally offered made purchasing a no brainer. I have half my points extended to 2057 so will be interesting to see what happens in 2042.
We absolutely love everything about this resort from cast members to room sizes, to location and food…shh, let’s keep Olivia’s a hidden gem. We were thrilled when the outdoor dining space was added as wasn’t original. Loved the story from Amy about Gurgling Suitcase, which has wonderful bartenders and food. Shout out to cast members in the Community Room providing many wonderful recreational activities.

We bought in November 1991 in Building 11~first one built!! I knew when we were taken on the tour and saw the Mickey Mouse shaped soap & the other toiletries in Mickey Mouse colors that we were buying!! Photo in Olivia’s as well. I remember well the vacations at OKW when the members of your travel party staying with you were given passes for each day that you were there! Remember the gifts with the DVC logo on them that arrived in the mail for DVC members? And the ‘book’ that you were given to keep your closing documents in when you purchased your points? When you mortgage payment was made to Disney and it showed as Disney on your bank statement? Let the magic continue!!
