About Author

Paul lives in Orlando, Florida with his wife, Amy, and their three Spanish galgos, Hermès, Cinders, and Emerson. They’re Disney Vacation Club Members at five resorts, Disney World Annual Passholders, and always on the lookout for new ways to enjoy and maximize their DVC points. When he’s not at the parks or planning their next trip, Paul loves cooking (big Alton Brown fan), training for Disney races with Amy, and blasting Billy Joel in the background.

Definitely VGF over Riviera. The rooms and grounds speak to me. Being able to walk to and from Magic Kingdom is a big deal. (Think park open and park close.)

Skyliner over Monorail. On a clear day, in the middle of the day, the trip is more relaxing. Generally the transportation I take when I have no where specific to go or time to be there.

Boardwalk View over Magic Kingdom view especially with the first cup of coffee in the morning. Savannah View with that first cup of coffee is a close second. I am with Amy, the parking lot AND the cost of the room distracts from the Magic Kingdom view.

I honestly think that some preferences depend on whether you have personal transportation. Since we fly in to MCO and usually do not rent a car (how I miss DME and baggage service), location is everything. For instance, while I like the newly renovated rooms at SSR and the easy access to Disney Springs, I will never stay there again without a car.

I was surprised by the amount of love the Skyliner got. Not sure if it’s because the discussion was among DVC members that perhaps go more frequently than the typical Disney-goer, but between the frequency at which it shuts down and guests being suspended in the air in the hot sun during the ride, I haven’t gotten the impression that it has a good reputation in general.

Despite my preference for Skyliner, note that I don’t take it if I absolutely have to be somewhere at a specific time OR the weather is not clear. Like most things Disney, when it’s working it’s great and when it breaks down the world comes to an end. Knock on wood, I have not experienced a long stoppage. The design of the Riviera station guarantees there will be some brief stoppages on the Epcot rope.
