Ranking the Disney World Moonlight Magic Events

In recent years, Moonlight Magic events at Disney World have been held at EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, and Typhoon Lagoon. I feel very lucky to have attended Moonlight Magic events at each of the four parks offered, and while they are all a blast, here’s my ranking based on what they have to offer.

#4: Typhoon Lagoon

I’m not a big water park fan in general, but Typhoon Lagoon takes last place on my list mainly because it feels like a copy/paste of H20 Glow Nights, right down to the special character-themed pool floats in Castaway Creek, Typhoon Lagoon’s lazy river.

As with other Moonlight Magic events, you’ll find DJ parties, character meet and greets, and low wait times for the attractions.  However, this is the one Moonlight Magic event that doesn’t offer snack vouchers.  Instead, you get unlimited free popcorn, ice cream bars, and packaged fruit (e.g., apple slices and grapes).  Snacks are one of my favorite Moonlight Magic perks, and Typhoon Lagoon offers the least substantial snacks.

#3: Hollywood Studios

Moonlight Magic at Hollywood Studios is great for the shorter wait times for popular attractions like Slinky Dog Dash, Rise of the Resistance, Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster, and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway.  Hollywood Studios rarely hosts Extended Evening Hours, so for guests like me who avoid purchasing Lightning Lanes, this is a real win.  I especially appreciate the chance to ride Slinky Dog Dash all lit up at night!

A unique feature of this event is the private showing of Fantasmic.  Sure, the show is the same as the earlier showings available during normal park operating hours, but it is a nice touch.  There’s no need to get to the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater extra early to get a good spot.

You do get three snack vouchers for Hollywood Studios though the options are a little limited. Some of the better options at Hollywood Studios are Jack-Jack’s Num Num Cookie at Market, the Mickey Brownie Sundae at Hollywood Scoops, and the Wookiee Cookie at Backlot Express.

#2: Animal Kingdom

I usually only go to Animal Kingdom because my husband and son love it, but I really do enjoy Moonlight Magic here.  Animal Kingdom at night just hits differently, and I wish that the park were open later for regular operating hours.  Moonlight Magic is a rare opportunity to enjoy the park at night, and with Moonlight Magic being offered for the late fall/winter the past few years, it’s a wonderful time to soak in the atmosphere and enjoy the holiday decorations, the Merry Menagerie, and Holiday Tree of Life Awakenings (the projection show on the Tree of Life).

In my experience, lines have been very short, even for headliners like Flight of Passage.  The last time I went in December 2025, Expedition Everest had a posted wait of 20 minutes but was practically a walk-on.  In terms of characters, Festival of the Lion King hosts one of my favorite meet and greets since you wait in one line to meet about 7 different characters (often Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald, Daisy, Chip, and Dale in seasonal attire).

Animal Kingdom has some decent options for your snack vouchers, such as the seasoned fries and dumplings from Mr. Kamal’s, the Night Blossom and Pongu Lumpia from Pongu Pongu, and Dole Whip cups and floats from Tamu Tamu Refreshments.

#1: EPCOT

Hands down, EPCOT is my favorite Moonlight Magic event.  Most attractions have really short wait times, and you can easily ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind more than once. The Moonlight Magic snack vouchers are a treat at any event, but it’s even better when you’re able to use them for more unique treats such as festival foods instead of just Mickey pretzels, fries, and the usual snacks.  You really get the best bang for your buck here.  (The peppercorn-crusted striploin and dark chocolate torte in the American Pavilion during Festival of the Arts were delicious and a great value for those vouchers!)

EPCOT is also the only Moonlight Magic event that features an exclusive fireworks spectacular just for DVC Members.  Moonlight Magic is special on its own, but the beautiful fireworks show with its grand finale really puts it over the top for me.

All in all, you can’t go wrong with any Moonlight Magic event you can register for, but they are each slightly different.  This is simply my ranking; if you’ve attended Moonlight Magic in the past, how would you rank the events?
