Celebrating a Birthday, DVC Style

Birthdays are special to begin with, so what can make them even more magical?  Spending your birthday at Walt Disney World! Aside from the usual birthday button that you can pick up at a number of locations at WDW, such as your resort or guest relations, you can add a few more touches to celebrate a birthday as a DVC member.

Have a Cake Delivered to Your Villa

For my fiancé’s birthday, I ordered a small cake to be delivered to our studio at the BoardWalk Villas.  You can place your order by calling Disney. There is also a wealth of information on ordering cakes on the “Official Disney Cake Chatter” thread on the DISboards.  It includes instructions on how to order a cake since they vary depending on where you would like to have the cake delivered, be it a resort or a restaurant.  For example, since Timothy and I were staying at the BoardWalk Villas, I placed my order through the BoardWalk’s private dining line a few weeks prior to our stay.  There are a few standard options to choose from, but if you want something other than that, you will have to customize.

I asked for a mini two-tier cake with Donald Duck themed piping since Donald is one of Timothy’s favorite characters.  I was then given a few options, such as chocolate or vanilla cake, chocolate or vanilla buttercream, and a few options for fillings.  I provided our DVC reservation confirmation number, so the order could be linked to our resort reservation. This way, the cake could be delivered to our villa on Timothy’s birthday.  Disney does charge tax and a delivery fee for the cake, but as long as you are already checked-in, you can have the cake delivered to your villa even if you aren’t there to receive it.  In our case, they left the cake in the fridge and placed a card on the kitchenette counter to notify us of the delivery.

Decorate Your Villa

Disney Floral & Gifts offers in-room celebration packages that include room decorations and/or gifts to celebrate a birthday or any other special occasion.  You can find items gifts like flowers, treats, balloons, banners, and keepsakes in themes such as Mickey and friends, Disney princesses, Star Wars, etc.  If you prefer to decorate the villa yourself, just be sure not to use tape or anything that can leave a mark.

Try a Fun Experience

For a birthday gift, why not celebrate by going to one of the special events or experiences offered for DVC members?  For example, there are wine tasting events or Painting with a View at Top of the World Lounge. DVC seems to change up its offerings every so often, but you can check the DVC website for the full list.  There are also discounts for tours and other experiences for DVC owners with a blue membership card. For Timothy’s birthday, I treated him to Disney’s Keys to the Kingdom Tour (more on that in a future blog). As direct DVC members, we were able to get 15% off of the ticket price.

Note the Birthday on Your Reservations

While nothing is guaranteed, a note can sometimes bring a little extra pixie dust your way!  At the very least, it doesn’t hurt to note the birthday on your dining reservations and DVC reservation.  You can do this by calling Member Services. Timothy received the confetti cupcake pictured here from Cape May Cafe and a madeleine and brownie from Topolino’s Terrace. I was also able to note Timothy’s birthday on our Keys to the Kingdom Tour reservation.

It was so much fun to surprise Timothy for his birthday.  I’m already excited to plan something fun for the next celebration!
