Refurbishment Begins at The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa

Today we’re getting a first look at the soft goods refurbishment project that is now underway at The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa!

Huge thank you to Bob Dickens, who recently checked into a newly refurbished one-bedroom villa and shared some photos with us over in the DVC Fan Facebook Group!

The villa’s most noticeable change is the much-anticipated addition of the pull-down Murphy Bed that replaces the previous pull-out couch bed. This has now found its way into Riviera Resort, Saratoga Springs, Polynesian, Grand Floridian and is rumored to be a part of the upcoming refurbishment at Boulder Ridge as well.

New updates and additions to the Grand Floridian Villas include:

  • New upholstery on the kitchen chairs and bench
  • Queen Size Murphy Bed (queen size)
  • New living room area rug
  • Updated carpet in main bedroom
  • Headboard and new decorative pillow for main bedroom
  • New bathroom mirrors

Fans of the resort will also notice that the following items have been removed from the rooms as part of the soft goods refurbishment:

  • Ottoman
  • Rolling benches
  • Girl with bike and Duffy picture
  • TV’s in the bathroom mirrors

Work appears to have recently been completed on the sixth floor of the resort, with crews moving onto the fifth and fourth floors at this time. The hallways throughout the villas are also receiving a minor refresh with updated carpeting and paint. If you’ve got an upcoming trip planned, it seems requesting an upper floor may be your best option and getting a sparkly new villa!

Disney previously provided us with a look at these refurbished villas when they shared with us more information regarding the highly anticipated expansion of the Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

Let us know in the comments what you think of these new updates as part of The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa’s refurbishment!

  • im not feeling the carpets. the artwork on the bed is nice. not feeling the upholstery pattern on the banquet in the kitchen. not feeling the colour of the bed headboards. bathroom is fine. In summary, “meh”.

  • The Murphy bed is a great addition, but other than that it looks like a cross between the Golden Girls and my grandmother’s house. But then, I’ve never been a fan of the decor at GFV so what do I know?

  • The Murphy bed is a good look, but the drawback is that the sofa ends up being far from comfortable based on the Riviera. The kitchen tables could stand for refinishing or replacing based on the abuse guests have put them through, but that likely has to wait until a hard-goods refurbishment. It is just nice to have things freshened. I recall how pristine everything was in 2014 in comparison to the wear and tear in the rooms that has become very noticeable the last few years. It is interesting that the televisions in the bathroom mirrors were a big selling point and now they are being removed. It appears that the verdict was they weren’t worth the hassle and that technology changes too quickly.

  • The feel of the room is more flowery and less “Victorian” than the original decor, plus it seems less light and bright. I don’t like the new banquette fabric, otherwise it’s okay, but sort of lost the sense of elegance that we bought GF for. They might have been going for “less stuffy” but I never thought the GF was stuffy!

  • Looks great to me. Was certainly needed. Hope we get an updated room when we visit in early January!!
