We just got one of our best looks yet inside Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge, including new images of the one- and two-bedroom Lake Houses coming to the new Disney Vacation Club resort.
The surprise preview came during the “Suite Dreams: Designing Disney Resorts” panel at D23 in Anaheim. At the conclusion of the panel, Chris Beatty, Portfolio Executive Creative Director for Walt Disney Imagineering, shared a video taking attendees inside the Lake Houses and explaining some of the thinking behind their design.
And while the images themselves give us plenty to look at, the story Imagineering is building around these accommodations may be even more interesting. The Lake Houses are being imagined as retreats for Disney artists, with Brother Bear providing much of the inspiration.
First Look Inside the Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge Lake Houses
The new images give us a much more complete look at what staying inside one of the Lake Houses could eventually feel like.
We also shared a video of the Lake Houses from the presentation on our Instagram and DVC Fan YouTube.
We see expansive living and dining areas, a full kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms, all tied together by a contemporary design that uses warm woods, greens, oranges, natural textures, and colorful artwork.
One feature immediately stands out: floor-to-ceiling glass.
Beatty specifically called attention to the windows during the presentation, describing them as “really letting nature step in and be a part of the experience.”
That’s particularly important for accommodations like these. The Lake Houses will sit along the shoreline at Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge, so connecting the interior spaces with the surrounding landscape appears to have been a priority from the beginning.
But the views are only part of the story.
The Lake Houses Are Designed as Disney Artists’ Retreats
According to Beatty, Imagineering approached the Lake Houses with a specific story in mind.
“We designed these as little artists’ sort of retreats,” Beatty explained.
The idea is that guests are entering a space where a Disney artist has been staying and working. Beatty said Imagineers want it to feel as though the artist has just left, leaving guests to discover a space influenced by that artist’s work and surroundings.
It’s a relatively subtle storytelling device, but one that makes a lot of sense for Lakeshore Lodge. Rather than relying entirely on characters or overt Disney references, Imagineering can use artwork, materials, colors, and architectural details to tell the story.
For these particular Lake Houses, the artists have been working on one very specific Disney film.
Brother Bear Inspires the Lakeshore Lodge Lake Houses
The one- and two-bedroom Lake Houses are themed around Brother Bear, something Beatty acknowledged might initially seem like an unusual choice.
After all, Brother Bear isn’t set anywhere near Florida. Its story is rooted in the wilderness of Alaska.
But that’s not why Imagineering chose it.
“Brother Bear was not based in Florida. It was based in Alaska,” Beatty told the audience. “But Brother Bear was done, or the production of Brother Bear was in Florida.”
That connection gives the design considerably more depth.
The 2003 film was produced in part by the artists at Walt Disney Feature Animation Florida, which operated at what was then Disney-MGM Studios. Instead of simply choosing Brother Bear because its landscapes fit a nature-inspired resort, Imagineering is using the film to celebrate the Disney artists behind it.
Beatty described the spaces as “beautiful little, almost like love letters to that film” and to the artists who brought it to life.
That may be the most interesting thing we learned during the entire preview.
Brother Bear Is There Without Taking Over the Room
Looking at the new images, this isn’t the kind of Disney resort room where characters are plastered across every available surface.
Instead, Brother Bear appears to influence the atmosphere of the Lake Houses.
The most dramatic example comes in the bedroom, where the wall behind the bed features an illuminated mountain landscape with a colorful aurora borealis stretching across it. Greens, blues, purples, and pinks provide a striking contrast to the darker headboard and surrounding wood finishes.
That northern lights imagery carries into the bathroom as well, where another colorful landscape appears alongside a large soaking tub.
Elsewhere, the connection becomes more understated. Warm woods, greens, oranges, colorful artwork, and nature-inspired elements all contribute to the sense that these spaces belong to artists who have been drawing inspiration from the world around them.
It’s a clever way to bring Brother Bear into the rooms without turning them into Brother Bear-themed bedrooms.
A Contemporary Take on a Lakeside Retreat
Beyond the storytelling, these images give us plenty of practical details about the Lake Houses themselves.
The living area shown during the presentation features soaring windows looking into the surrounding trees, along with green seating, an orange accent chair, a fireplace, and warm wood finishes.
The kitchen has extensive wood cabinetry, stainless appliances, a large island, and an open layout connecting it with the dining and living areas. High ceilings and exposed beams add architectural interest while keeping the overall space feeling more contemporary than rustic.
That distinction is worth noting.
Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge will be surrounded by some of Walt Disney World’s most established wilderness-inspired accommodations, but these Lake Houses don’t look like an attempt to recreate a traditional cabin. They feel more modern, with the wilderness influence coming through the views, materials, colors, and artwork.
New Looks at the Bedrooms and Bathrooms
The bedroom is probably the biggest visual standout from this latest batch of images.
That illuminated northern lights feature above the bed is going to get plenty of attention, and understandably so. It’s one of the clearest Brother Bear connections we’ve seen while still feeling like part of an upscale resort room rather than a character installation.
The bathrooms continue the contemporary aesthetic.
We see a spacious dual-sink vanity with substantial counter space and open storage underneath, along with dark fixtures and warm wood accents. Another image reveals a walk-in shower with colorful mosaic tile, while the soaking tub sits alongside that dramatic northern lights artwork.
The overall result feels polished without losing the natural character Imagineering is trying to establish throughout the accommodations.
The Artist Retreat Story Makes These Rooms More Interesting
For me, the explanation from Beatty is what really brings these new images together.
Without the backstory, you could easily look at the mountain imagery, northern lights, warm woods, and natural colors and conclude that Disney simply wanted a modern wilderness aesthetic.
Knowing that the Lake Houses are meant to feel like retreats used by Disney artists changes how you look at those details.
And using Brother Bear adds another layer. The film’s connection to Disney’s animation history gives Imagineering an opportunity to celebrate the artists who created it while still building a design that feels appropriate for a resort centered around nature.
It’s exactly the kind of detail that isn’t necessarily obvious when you first walk into a room, but makes the design more meaningful once you know why it’s there.
Our Best Look Yet at the Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge Lake Houses
We’re still looking at artist renderings, and Disney notes that the project remains under development, but this D23 presentation gives us a much clearer idea of what Imagineering has planned for the one- and two-bedroom Lake Houses at Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge.
The floor-to-ceiling glass and connection to nature were already enough to make these accommodations intriguing. Now we know there’s a deeper story behind the interiors, with the Lake Houses envisioned as Disney artists’ retreats and Brother Bear serving as a love letter to both the film and the people who created it.
Based on these images, the result looks noticeably different from other large Disney Vacation Club accommodations around Walt Disney World, and that’s probably a good thing.
Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge is currently scheduled to open in Summer 2027.
